WASHINGTON, D.C., (October 18, 2010) – The Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP) recognized Mark Hindle, FAHP, CFRE, fundraising head for the Australian Diabetes Council, for achieving the AHP Fellow designation (FAHP). Hindle is in the 36th class of Fellows, which will be honored on Thursday, Oct. 21, at the AHP Annual International Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
“Elevation to the status of Fellow in AHP is the highest level of achievement in the field of health care philanthropy,” said William C. McGinly, Ph.D., president of the U.S.-based association whose 4700 members direct philanthropic programs in more than 2,000 not-for-profit health care facilities.
“Conferring of the Fellow designation is not so much an award, as it is recognition of individual professional distinction, well earned through dedication and continual self-advancement,” McGinly said.
Now with nearly two decades of senior management and leadership experience to his credit, Hindle began his fundraising career in 1991 as counsel on a capital appeal. Within three years, as national executive director of the Fundraising Institute of Australia (FIA), he established the first International Conference Exchange Program between FIA and the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and in 1994 earned the Certified Fund Raising Executive credential.
“I strongly advocate for integrated fundraising, diversified income streams, and development teams that actually raise money!” Hindle said. “Of utmost importance is developing the potential of our next generation of fundraising professionals, several of whom I have been privileged to mentor and who now hold senior appointments within the Australian health care sector.”
As an executive member of FIA, Hindle has held several volunteer appointments including state chair of the New South Wales chapter. In 2008 he was awarded an AHP scholarship to attend the Madison Institute of the University of Wisconsin, one of the premier educational experiences in the fundraising world. This year, while attending his fourth Madison Institute, Hindle completed the requirements to achieve his Fellows.
Hindle has served as office bearer in Rotary, Lions, Chamber of Commerce, Rugby Union, as well as being College Fellow at the University of New England-Armidale, New South Wales. In 1970 he was conscripted into national service and subsequently commissioned into the New Zealand Territorial Army where he rose to hold senior appointments in the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment.
AHP is dedicated to the advancement of nonprofit health care institutions and organizations through the enhancement of its members' performance and professionalism. The association sets professional standards for health care development officers, offers comprehensive educational programs to help them achieve those standards, and examines them to determine who meets the standards. Professionals who successfully complete the Fellow written and oral examinations earn the designation Fellow of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.
Successful applicants must have earned the Certified Fundraising Executive designation, have at least eight years of experience in raising and managing philanthropic funds for a health care organization, and pledge in writing to adhere to the AHP Statement of Professional Standards and Conduct and to uphold the AHP-endorsed Donor Bill of Rights.
