Attended the 2011 AHP Madison Institute
On July 9th, I had the opportunity to take part in the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy Madison Institute – The Annual Giving Track. This unique learning tool was extremely helpful in regards to my business development, continuing education. This was a five day, intense course focusing on all elements of annual giving. My instructor for those five days was development expert Ann Thompson-Haas. I learned more from her in this short period of time than I imagine I would have learned through any other avenue. The overall experience of this year’s Madison Institute was incredible, and the funds that I so gratefully received were very well spent!

Kristen J. Pruski Washington Hospital Center Foundation
AHP Mid-Atlantic
Attended the 45th AHP Annual International Educational Conference
One of the highlights of the conference was the speakers from Life Is Good. Their inspirational and motivational message was just what I needed to hear to get me focused. Listening to the Life Is Good guys was the highlight of my conference. They put me in the right mindset and got me to remove myself from the stress of life!
My expectations were met. I wanted to gain knowledge and I certainly did! I enjoyed working with other fundraisers and learning what they do. I really always enjoy the roundtables and was happy to lead one again.

Mary L. Luebbert Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital
AHP Midwest
Attended the 45th AHP Annual International Educational Conference
I felt that this was an excellent conference! I am only allowed to have one professional membership paid by my employer on an annual basis, and I ALWAYS chose AHP! I am also only allowed to attend one conference every two years and I choose AHP.
I always get what I expect from this conference: New friends; great education; and to be very tired when I get home because my brain is full!
Anyone who is a member of AHP that does not take advantage of this opportunity is truly doing themselves a disservice. It is a well-planned event which has obviously been given very thoughtful preparation on every level. I will always accept if given the chance to go again.

Renee Powell Jackson County Health Care Authority
AHP Southeast
Attended the 45th AHP Annual International Educational Conference
Overall my opinion of the conference is attendees were pleased with this year’s program. I expected to come away from the conference with ideas I could implement immediately and in the future. This goal was met. I expected to come away from the conference with new networking contacts I could call upon. This goal was met. I expected to speak with vendors in areas I had questions about. This goal was met.
My most worthwhile experiences were the AHP Development Primer, Networking breakfast by topic and Conversation Café which gave me tools I could take back immediately and ensure a successful year for my young Foundation.
Again, I would like to say thank you for my scholarships. Being new to philanthropy, my new role for our Foundation, this scholarship was my “on-the-job-training”! It met my needs, my expectations and even more. I feel AHP goes above and beyond to help the healthcare foundations.

Courtney A. Mayfield East Texas Medical Center Foundation
AHP Rockies & Southwest
Attended the 2011 AHP Madison Institute
After attending the annual giving track in 2010, I easily decided that the Madison Institute provides training and education like no other fundraising educational opportunity – period. My decision on this after attending the major gifts track this year remains the same. Again this year the instructors were phenomenal, the sessions right on target and the ideas and lessons learned from networking tremendous.
As one of two development staff for our 28 county, 14 affiliate hospital system, it was my goal to learn more about the process of developing true major gifts program. Thankfully, the Institute did just that and I am excited to say that Foundation dollars were well spent in preparing me to impact health care philanthropy in a positive way in East Texas.

Amy R. Flynn Living Care Retirement Community
AHP Pacific
Attended the 2011 AHP Madison Institute
I was VERY satisfied with my experience at the Madison Institute! The instructors were knowledgeable and engaging. Our class was relatively small in size which allowed for plenty of time to ask questions of the instructors and benefit from one another’s experiences.
I expected to learn more about the various planned giving vehicles and because we are a brand new development program, I hoped to bring back ideas for implementing a planned giving program at my organization. The Institute far exceeded my expectations. The Institute provided far more than information – it provided practical advice about how to apply my new knowledge for the benefit of the donor and the organization I represent.
I believe these funds were well spent and I thank the AHP Foundation for investing in me. As the director of development for an organization with a brand new development program, I will take what I have learned at Madison Institute and use it to advance philanthropy in my organization. I now feel well prepared to offer planned giving opportunities to our growing donor base – helping to secure the future of the wonderful organization I serve. Thank you so much!

Lesley Heighway Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation
AHP Canada
Attended the 2011 AHP Madison Institute
Thank you very much for the opportunity to attend the Madison Institute. The scholarship you have awarded me was instrumental in my ability to attend as our professional development budget was significantly reduced this fiscal.
I had three key expectations and areas where I wished to expand my professional knowledge through attending the Major Gifts Track at Madison:
- Refining of my major gift solicitation skills
- Learning more about best practices in major gifts including physician engagement and cultivation strategies
- Refining my leadership skills
My experience at Madison was extremely positive and I feel that I have learned a lot in each of the three areas I’d defined as my key areas for growth. My expectations of Madison Institute were absolutely met and the experience worthwhile. Thank you once again for investing in my major gifts education and in me as a professional fundraiser. The knowledge I’ve gained will assist me in raising larger gifts to ensure that patients at our regional hospital have access to the best technology to deliver the best care when they need it most.

Itzel Velazquez Sanchez American British Cowdray Medical Center IAP
AHP International
Attended the 45th AHP Annual International Educational Conference
The annual conference is a great opportunity to open your mind and exchange ideas with colleagues and partners from different places. Attending the conference was an exceptional opportunity for me to learn more about fundraising and the way it works in other institutions.
It is wonderful to have a lot of educational offerings and variety of topics to learn about. It was very useful for me to choose themes from each of the different tracks. The opportunity of having a scholarship, my first time attending a congress out of my country, attending a congress specialized in health care fundraising, networking and meeting people from other countries, sharing experiences with colleagues of different institutions, ages, and majors. All the experiences were worthwhile for me.
I have no doubt that these funds were all well spent, I really took advantage of this great experience, and my knowledge will be shared with my partners at work, so the impact is not only for me, but for my institution and other colleagues in Mexico City. |
